Imagine you walk into the living room and there’s a football game on the television.
You can hear the announcers get more and more excited about the game as one team drives the ball down the field.
If you’re a sports fan, you want to get excited about the game too, but what if the screen doesn’t show the score?
You won’t know if the team needs a touchdown, if they can settle for a field goal or if they are just trying to run out the clock so they can hold onto their lead in the final moments, unless somehow the score is communicated to you!
Now imagine that you’re watching a great movie and you have the advantage of knowing what’s going on with all of the characters, while they are left in the dark.
You want to let them know the score of their story, you want to tell them that the other character isn’t really upset with them or that they are about to stab them in the back or that it was all a big miscommunication!
As a Christian, I almost feel guilty that I do know the past score, the current score and the future score of everything that matters in regards to man kind.
I know exactly what brought humanity into the abyss of sin and the reward of hell that is awaiting all those who stay in that state of sin.
I know what brought us back from a seemingly insurmountable lead, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that through His sacrificial death and resurrection, we can be redeemed by trusting in Him.
I know how the game ends because He revealed it to us in the book of Revelation, with the believers spending eternity with Him and the enemies of the Gospel, both demonic and unbelieving people ,will be sent to Hell.
It’s great being on the winning side and knowing it, but just like when I see a character on the screen who is clueless to the fullness of his situation, I want to be able to reach into the screen and whisper in the ear the whole truth.
How do you let people know the score?
