Blog Series: The Undistracted Christian Guide To Dieting To Serve God

July 2, 2012 — 8 Comments

This is the beginning of “The Undistracted Christian Guide To Dieting To Serve God”, A Blog Series

Like many of you, there is one thing that I’ve been trying to do for as long as I can remember, but I have not totally committed. I have tried many methods, I have tried many strategies. While some have worked better than others, I have never fully committed to reaching my dietary goals. Until now.

Do You Want To Give Your Diet Over To God?

It doesn’t matter if you are in great shape, if you are skinny or fat, strong or weak, tall or short, your diet matters.

Why do I think it’s so important?

Because if you’re reading this, it means that you have more opportunities than most people in the world, with more resources than most people in the world, to give to other people in service to God.

This means that we have not only opportunity, but responsibility to do more because we have more to work with (physically) in this life.

I have decided that I personally need to take this seriously, without further delay, and I’d like to take you along the journey with me, if you’re willing.

Do you want to give your diet over to God? Tweet This!

This blog series will run on Monday mornings, from today through the end of the year (that is my initial goal, anyway).

These Are The Topics Covered In This Series

Never thought about giving my diet over to God. Where are you going with this Tyler? I like the direction and I like the future posts you have lined up. I’m interested to know your thoughts. Especially the post on Fasting..Keep the good stuff coming bro.

Well, I think that is exactly my point…we spend a lot of time, money and effort into what we eat, but very rarely do I ever hear anyone talk about doing it in a faithful way to God, but we know that nothing pleases God if it isn’t done in faith. For most of my life I’ve just eaten what pleased me, rather than giving my body as a living sacrifice to God with my nutrition. I’ll get further into details in the future and I think when I talk about my personal diet next week it will clear a few things up as well! Thanks, Lincoln!

Tyler, I came to pretty much the same conclusion a few years ago. I had tried dieting before, but I was never very serious about it because I didn’t really have a good reason for dieting. It was not until I really thought about my diet as something that also belongs to God that any real change happened. I finally grasped the fact that my body belongs to God, that not taking care of my body is sin, and that I truly must even eat to the glory of God. With that mindset, purpose, and dedication, I lost 80 pounds through nothing more than eating healthier and exercising like I should.

Thanks Chuck, that’s awesome…I’m about 70 lbs less than I was 3 years ago, but it wasn’t because I had reached this conclusion, it was just out of desperation to not be as big as I was. I’ll get more into that next week, but this is kind of my “next step”…because I still have about 50 lbs I want to lose, but it’s more than just that, it’s about eating right as a lifestyle to serve God. We can’t always help not being healthy and I don’t think we’re ever promised that we will be healthy as some suppose, but I do think that we should be stewards with our bodies just as we should be with our money and time.

Giving our diet to God makes sense since we should give everything to Him. He want’s all of our life not just part of it. Great thoughts.

Looking forward to reading some of the upcoming posts.

thanks Dan, it definitely makes sense, i just think a lot of us don’t think about it that way, maybe we can be different :)

Great post. I’m looking forward to following this series. I have been a quest to get healthier over the last year, and it started by reading Made to Crave by Lysa Terkheurst. It is amazing what a difference it makes when we view it this way.
